The history of Opus-Karnaval

One day after work, rather than going back to my tiny studio in the suburbs of Paris, I decided to sit in the Luxembourg Gardens to do some touch-ups on a mask in the open air. Once I was done with my touch-ups, I walked around the park and found myself face to face with a statue named "The Mask Merchant". A real sign of destiny for me who was thinking more and more about devoting myself totally to this art. Two years later, I am proud to introduce you to my shop and look back on its history.

It all started during the covid lockdown. After more than ten years working in the luxury hotel industry, this timeless period has allowed me to refocus on what I am made for, creation. Indeed, with a degree in applied arts and product design, I was able to practice several disciplines again, object creation, body-painting, motion-design, drawing, painting and I was hungry to learn new ways to express my imagination.

Masks were first a way to complete the creation of characters often inspired by various mythologies with body-painting in filmed settings.

SHANGO - (mythologie Yoruba)

RAIJIN - (mythologie japonaise)

FUJIN- (mythologie japonaise)

SATYRE- (mythologie grecque)

I gradually realized that a mask could be an exceptional object on its own to express both an infinite range of materials (plaster, plastic, textiles, haberdashery, synthetic glues, oil paint, acrylic or with various metal effects, etc.) but also know-how (molding, heat transformation, sculpture,  cutting, etc.). I tried to explore them one by one.

Here are some experiments:

CERNUNNOS- (mythologie celte)

IXCHEL- (mythologie maya)
